Summer time

Now that it’s summer here in Honolulu it’s time to start planning activities with the kids and family. Here at Porsche Hawaii we suggest getting out of the city and seeing what the great island of Oahu has to offer.  Just 20 minutes away from downtown Honolulu is the Waahila Ridge State Recreation Area.

Enjoy it with the family

Waahila Ridge is a great location for family picnics, with covered picnic pavilions, picnic tables, restrooms, trash cans, water fountains and plenty of parking; everything needed for a comfortable time is accounted for. The recreation area does not allow animals, alcoholic beverages, or smoking. The recreation area is open from 7 am to 7:45 pm and has no entry fee.

Add some excitement

If you’re looking for something a little more exciting, there is a ridge hike that originates right from the recreation area. Waahila Ridge Trail offers large scenic views, viewing of the native forest, and birdlife. The trails start is at the back of Waahila Ridge State Recreation Area, while on the trail you will be alternating between open ridge and dense forests as it gradually ascends up the ridge between Manoa and Palolo Valleys. It offers specatacular views of Palolo Valley, Manoa Valley, Honolulu and the Koolau Range. The trail is well populated with both native flowers and native birds.

Stay safe

The trail is labeled as moderate on the states website, so it may not be idea for young children. There are some steep inclines at certain parts, please dress accordingly. Mountain biking is not allowed on the trail; dogs are allowed but must be kept on a leash.
